This community is up for adoption
The uninformed visitor traveling south on Highway 85 out of Greeley might assume
that Evans is simply a part of Greeley since the two communities are not
separated by geographical distance as are all other communities in the county.
Evans is an independent and progressive city.
The one-time county seat, Evans was incorporated in 1885.

Hi,
My great grandparents, Nettie Smith Sherman and Dr. Lucian L. Bedell, moved
from Cheyenne, WY after 1870 to Evans, CO.
They owned and published a newspaper in Cheyenne for three years. Their
daughter, Ella, was born in Cheyenne (Dakota Territory) in 1867 and Nettie's son
William John Sherman born in Council Bluffs, IA 1860 went to school in Evans.
Nettie's first husband John H. Sherman was a circuit court judge in Denver and
died of heat stroke in 1861. Lucien Bedell was a physician and practiced in
Evans.
They moved to the Leadville area in 1880.
