The Roentgen Rays.
Greeley Tribune, Greeley, Weld Co, Colorado, 3 Dec 1896, p. 4
Utilized for the First Time in Weld County.
A week or ten days ago Mrs. Alex Ferguson, while engaged at needlework broke the
needle off into her hand. After the first prick she was undecided as to whether
the broken piece entered her hand or fell on the floor, as but little pain was
felt. To satisfy her curiosity as much as anything she was prevailed upon to
allow Charles Oleson, of the electric light works, to take a photograph of her
hand with the Roentgen or X rays, The photograph showed where the piece of
needle, about three-fourths of an inch in length, was located and the next day a
local surgeon extracted it.
This is the first time the rays have been put to practical use in Greeley or
Weld county. Mr. Oleson is a Weld county product and has been experimenting for
months with the rays. All the apparatus used, excepting the Crooks tubes, was
made by himself. He is fast developing into a first-class electrician and may
yet have his name mentioned with Edison and Teales."
