The
Weld County Genealogical Society was founded in 1973 to help others trace their family
histories and find their roots. Membership is open to anyone interested in genealogy,
Colorado roots are not required. Meetings are held
the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m., in the Elizabeth Bowers Meeting Room at the
Centennial Park Branch Library, 2227 23rd Ave., Greeley, CO.
Dues are $15.00 per person or $20.00 per family per year. The membership year
begins July 1.
Contact the Weld county
Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 278, Greeley, Colorado 80632 for membership applications.
The Quarterly is published each August, November, February and May. It
contains vital records, historical facts and Weld County items of genealogical
interest. Queries for members are published free. A simple search is also
free.
The Quarterly, which is included in the dues, normally has 54 pages, not
including the covers. The usual contents include one or two pages of tips
gleaned from publications of other societies; two pages of queries searched and
resolved, or queries from members seeking information that is not necessarily
genealogical. Each issue usually has a member ancestor chart, which varies
from one to three pages. The remainder is normally quite varied record
extractions of interest to anyone with Weld County connections. They range
from accounts at stores, postal money order purchases, church membership
rolls, extractions from old newspapers, homestead land patents, etc., etc.,.
There are times when extracted material comes from what are now other
counties. At the time of Colorado Territory and early days of Colorado
(state), Weld county covered all of northeastern Colorado. It is still a very
large county in area -- about 4250 square miles.
All requests for research will be charged at the rate of $10.00 per hour plus
cost of photocopies and postage. A single obituary search is $5.00, including
the photocopy of the obituary
